Masterchef Australia

Masterchef Australia

About the show

The toughest cooking show around has become Australia’s biggest amateur cooking competition in history, as ambitious kitchen enthusiasts take on demanding challenges in their bid to prove they have what it takes to become Australian Masterchef 2009.

The competition starts with a national tour of auditions, before the top 50 travel to Sydney where they are put through their paces in a variety of challenges – from chopping and knife skills to mystery tasks in different locations – as they compete for a place in the final 20. For the lucky ones, this is the very start of their Masterchef journey.

For the final 20, they must learn fast and constantly up their game, as they perform invention tests where they must cook from a mystery box of ingredients; cook the same menu as their competitors and somehow come out top; or take part in tasks that are completely outside of their comfort zone – cooking for the army, or catering for a wedding. All the challenges require concentration, dedication and above all talent – as one mistake could mean the end of their dream.

The dream could be brought even closer for one contestant, when in an exciting twist, they are challenged to cook head-to-head with one of Australia’s best known, five-star chefs. If the contestant manages to beat the professional, they will be safe from elimination, ensuring their place in finals week.

Throughout this emotional and exhausting journey, who will prove to the judges that they have what it takes?

We loved every episode of your 2010 show! The planning, professionalism and thought behind the show was superb! Over the weeks I became attached to each and every contestant and to Gary, George and Matt! At times got up at 5am to catch up!! Thank you so much - hope we don't have to wait too long for the next!!

Dear Gary,George and Matt, Thanks for a very entertaining 2010 program I have just seen. Though Calum really got up my nose in the beginning, I warmed to the young man later on. When you spoke to him as he was crying, I was bowled over totally!! What a gesture!!! That is greatness in a soul!! I will continue to be dazzled by your antics all! All the very best for the future!! Kind Regards, Pieter A. Klaassen-Reid

Am bereft to think that tonight will be the last night of weeks of pure pleasure watching MC AUS. on my TV in Hluhluwe Kwazulu/Natal. S. Africa.Saw Julie win last time. Both Adam and Callum are great people and I admire them both but I would love humble, unassuming Callum to win tonight !What a brilliant programme, and hats off to Gary and George for all they have taught the contestants ( and 72year-old me!) but mostly for the unfailing courtesy, humour and kindness they have extended to everyone concerned. Well done and here's to many more MC Competitions
